Fan Collection
It was natural for Ucollections to create a fan collection since fan is one of my favorite shapes not only because of its elegant shape but also its cultural significance as well.
A hand-held fan is shaped like a circle segment made of a paper mounted to slats that revolve around a pivot so that it can be closed when not in use. Fans were part of the social status for the Chinese people in ancient time. A particular status and gender would accord a specific type of fan to an individual.
Folding fans continue to be important cultural symbols in China. The fan symbolizes friendship, respect and good wishes. It is a gift that is given to good friends.
The fan stands for many things. It¡¯s believed that the handle of the fan symbolizes the beginning of life and the ribs are for the roads of life going out in all directions.
